Portable Document Format (PDF) is becoming the standard for electronic distribution of documents because it's the best way to keep the look and feel you created intact. PDF files are compact, cross platform and can be viewed by anyone with a free Acrobat Reader. PDF format is the best way to send your digital files to Gilmore Reproductions for processing and printing.

How to PDFWhen using Acrobat Distiller™ to create PDF files, be sure to set the following options:

Launch Adobe Acrobat Distiller™ and select the "Job Options" Menu.

How to PDF2Be sure to set the resolution for bitmaps used in your document to the following. The default settings are designed for viewing only and must be changed for proper resolution when printing.

How to PDF3Fonts are a key setting when creating your PDF files. Remember two fonts with the same name that are made by different manufacturers are different. So make sure the "Embed All Fonts" option is checked on to ensure your fonts will appear as intended.

Remember once these options are changed properly and your have closed Distiller™ the changes should now remain the default settings for your next project.

Plotting with AutoCAD using HPGL/2

Installing and Configuring the HPGL/2 Driver

We recommend using the Hewlett Packard DesignJet 755cm C3198A driver with AutoCAD. Follow these steps for installation of the HP755CM driver:
1. In the File menu, click Plotter Manager.
2. Double-click Add Plotter Wizard. The Introduction Page appears.

5. In the Manufacturers list,
select Hewlett-Packard. In the Models list, select DesignJet 755CM C3198A.

Note: Gilmore’s ReproDesk program used for printing does not support the HPGL/2 RTL DesignJet Windows system Printer drivers described in this message. The drivers embed unrecognized commands into plot files and
causes ReproDesk to process

AutoCAD CTB Editing (Pen Weights & Shades)

Below is how you can modify pen weights from the existing ctb file monochrome.ctb installed with AutoCAD.

The only two fields that need to be modified are the Lineweight & Screening to the settings you need to apply to your drawings.

NOTE: Gilmore Reproductions has no control over lineweights and screens and aren’t able to make modifications to prints (unless AutoCAD drawing files and CTB are sent to Gilmore).

Creating Plot Files for Gilmore Reproductions Inc.

When producing PLT files for Gilmore Reproductions ensure the following measures are taken:

1. In AutoCAD click on Print

2. Click on Plot Device:
• Select Plotter configuration of Gilmore Reproductioons.pc3
• Select YOUR CTB plot style table.
• Under Plot to file enter the sheet name and location to save your plot file (Note: don't use periods, commas or colons in the file name).

3. Click on Plot Settings:
• Select and set Paper size and Printable area
• Select the Plot area
• Select the Plot scale
• Click on Full Preview to view your plot file

4. Click Ok to finish.

Sending Files to Gilmore:

If you have ReproDesk installed you may insert the plot files you have created into the program and proceed sending to Gilmore, if don’t have access to ReproDesk please send using one of the three methods below:

1. Bring in plot files on floppy disk/ zip disk/ CDR / CDRW or DVD media.

2. Email your files to plotting@gilmore.ca with the following information supplied:*Keep Under 9Mb for email*
• Contact Name
• Telephone Number
• Company Name
• How many sheets to print (originals)
• Number of copies required
• Size of drawing sheet
• Bind or Loose

3. Gilmore's website gilmorereproductions.com on the home page select MyFiles upload icon ensure all instructions are clear prior to sending and Attention files to Plotting Department or Other Department if neccessary

If you fail to supply all information and files to Gilmore Reproductions your printing will not be started until clarification can be obtained. This may cause delays in completion time.

Installing Reprodesk 1.6

1. Insert the Reprodesk 1.6 CD into your CD ROM drive. If the installer does not run automatically, then browse to your CD ROM drive and double-click the application called "ocemenu.exe".

 

 

 

 

2. Select a language and click "OK" to begin the installation process.

 

3. Click "Install".

 

4. Click "OK".
5. Verify that your computer meets the minimum hardwre and software requirements. Reprodesk Remote (which is the version you will be installing) requires Windows 98 or newer, 128 MB RAM, Internet Explorer 5.5 or newer, and 60 MB of free hard disk space. Click "Continue" to proceed.
6. This is the welcome screen for the installation program. Click "Next" to continue.
7. Accept the conditions of the license agreement by clicking "Yes"
8. Enter a user name & company name and click "Next" to continue.
9. Click the radio button next to "Remote" and click "Next" to continue.
10. The only components you need to install are ApFtp and User Documentation. You may also install Acrobat Reader if you don't already have it.
11. Confirm the folder locations in which Reprodesk is to be installed. The default values are usually fine.
12. You can now specify which units will be used by default. Note that this can also be changed after the installation.

"Display folding column in the job window" should not be checked.

You can place a check mark beside "Create a shortcut on the desktop" if desired.

Click "Next" to continue.
13. This window asks you to specify the name of the program folder that will be accessible from the Start menu. Just click "Next" to continue.
14 A progress bar will be displayed while the files are being installed...
15. You are now prompted to specify the location of the Reprodesk custom files. These files define the appearance of the order form and FTP parameters for transferring orders.

You must browse to your CD ROM drive, click the "+" symbol to the left of it in order to display its contents and highlight the folder called "Custom files". Click "OK" to continue.
16. You are asked if you would like to configure ApFtp. Click "Yes" to continue.
17. Verify that ApFtp is configured as shown here. Note: the password is never displayed.

Host Name is "upload.gilmore.ca", User Login and Password are supplied to you by Gilmore Reproductions, Change to Directory field is left blank, and there should only be checkmarks beside Show Extra Status and Use Passive Transfer. Items on the right hand side of the window should be left blank. Click "OK" to continue.
18. The installation is now complete. You may be asked to restart your computer at this point, select "Yes" and click finish to continue.
19. When you run Reprodesk for the first time, you must configure the default communication parameters. Go to the "Configure" menu and click "Defaults..."
20. Click on the "Communications" tab, and then click the "Add..." button.
21. In the "Add Communications Method" window, type "ApFTP" in the space under "Method Name:", then click the "Browse..." button to the right of the "Executable:" field.
22. Select the file "apftp.exe" and click "Open".

Note
: If you can't see this file in the current list, then you may have to browse to it. It's located in the folder "c:\ocerd".
23 You then return to the previous window, but this time "c:\ocerd\apftp.exe" is shown in the space under "Executable:".


The remaining two fields in this window can be left blank. Click "OK" to continue.

24. You finally return to the "Configuration" window, which should show "ApFTP" in the space next to the telephone icon.


Configuration of the Reprodesk communication parameters is now complete. Click "OK" to continue.

Finally, when you're ready to send a job, you must select the communications method. To send a job, click the "Send Job" button.

Click the radio button beside "Modem" and select "ApFTP" from the pull-down menu. This selection will be remembered by the software, so in the future you'll only have to click "OK".

Click "OK" to continue.

The "Job Information" window is where you specify all the details of your order.

Reprodesk Reference Guide

Overview

Océ Repro Desk Client software is a digital print preparation and submission utility for wide-format documents. It allows you to assemble a set of digital files, predetermine output options, preview the drawings in What You See Is What You Print (WYSIWYP ) mode, and submit the set electronically to an Océ Repro Desk Server for printing.

Getting Started

After you install Océ Repro Desk Client software from the CD, you may launch the application from the Start menu or from the desktop icon. If you will be submitting files via FTP, you will need to obtain a username, password, and FTP address from your reprographer.

Contact your reprographer or print room administrator for assistance with Océ Repro Desk Client software.

Preparing & Submitting a Print Job

Step 1: Add Files to a JobAdd files icon

1. Click the Add Files toolbar button.
2. Select the files you wish to add.
3. Click Open.

The selected files appear in the job window. You may also drag-and-drop into the job window from Windows Explorer.


Standard Settings

In the Options menu, select and confirm that Auto Detect Paper Size is selected and Auto Paper Rotate is not selected. When you close Océ Repro Desk Client software, these settings automatically will be saved.

Step 2: Process Files Process files icon

1. Click the Process toolbar button. Océ Reprodesk Client software assembles all necessary print information and converts the selected files into a print-ready format. A checkmark to the left of the file name indicates the file has been processed.

2. Océ Reprodesk software automatically will detect errors within the files. Follow the instructions on the screen to solve these problems.

3. Choose your preferred print settings in the job window (zoom percentage, paper format, media, folding, alignment, etc.).

4. Change setting for individual files by right-clicking with the mouse. Change settings for all files by left-clicking the column name.

Step 3: Preview the DrawingsPreview icon

Océ Reprodesk Client software allows you to preview your files in WYSIWYG mode. This means that the print preview on your screen is exactly the same as the resulting print.

1. Select a file in the job window, then click the View toolbar button. The file appears in the Preview window. You can also view a drawing by double-clicking on its name.

2. Use the Preview Window buttons on the right (see page 1) to modigy the image settings. Move the mouse pointer over the buttons for button details. Changes to setting in the Preview window will result in changes to the print. However, zooming in and out in the Preview window will not affect the print.

3. Click the Toggle Rasterization toolbar button to see how the file will be printed on a monochrome printer. Click the Toggle Color Patterns button to see how the file will be printed on a colour printer.

Note: Some files that need to be printed in colour can best be submitted unprocessed. In the job window, select the file and use the drop-down arrow next to the Process toolbar button to select Unprocess Drawing. Select Yes in the Colour column of the Job window for any files that need to be printed in colour.

4. Click the Enlarge Detail tookbar button to enlarge a specific drawing detail. Only the information depicted on the paper background will be printed.

5. Click the Next and Previous buttons at the bottom of the Preview window to review all the files in your job.

6. When you are satisfied with the pre-proff of the output, close the Preview window. your job is now ready to be submitted for printing.

7. Select Save Job from the File menu to save the entire print-ready job so it can be opened agin at a later time.

8. Print check-plots on a small-format Windows printer by selecting Print Windows from the drop-down menu using the arrow next to the Print button.

Pen sets control the appearance of lines. Properties such as line width, shading and colour can all be set within Océ Reprodesk Client software. If you are using plot files with embedded pen widths, colours, patters, etc., you can use the embedded pen information or override the embedded pens and use a Reprodesk pen set. Click the Pens toolbar button or press Ctrl+H to access the pen control dialogue.

Step 4: Submit the JobSubmit icon

1. Click the Send Job toolbar button, select the appropriate submission method, and click OK. The Job Information dialogue appears. Complete the digital work order form in detail. Items depicted in bold are mandatory.

2. Follow your reprographer's instructions for the best method to request the number of sets or copies. Typically, if you need copies of the files, set the copy value in the Copies column of the Job window. If you are requesting sets, indicate the number of sets in the work order.

3. Choose Yes in the Archive Job section to instruct your reprographer to archive the print job for future reprinting.

4. Type any additional instructions in the Job Instructions section of the order form. Your print job is now ready for submission.

5. Select the Submit button. A job summary including the file names appears.

6. Click Print for a hard-copy of the job summary for your records.

7. Click Send Job to submit the job to your reprographer. Your job is submitted and a notification will appear on your screen.

Tip and Tricks

  • You can use the right mouse button to perform numerous tasks within Océ Reprodesk Client software. Right-click on a field in the job window for context-sensitive menus. Shortcut keys are also displayed in the File and Edit Menus.

  • You can edit properties by double-clicking individual fields in the job window, or change properties for the entire set by clicking on a column header. You can also make changes in the Imaging Properties dialogue by clicking the Properties toolbar button.

  • You can add a digital stamp to a drawing or set of drawings using the Stamp toolbar button, and stamps can be saved and reused. You can also overlay multiple images by selecting a file and choosing Add Overlay from the right-click menu.

  • You can print small format chack plots to a local Windows printer by choosing Print Windows from the File > Print menu. You can enable wide-format inkjet printing from Océ Reprodesk Client software by purchasing a server license from your software vendor.

  • You can save the entire job ).job file) to re-submit for printing at a later time with the same settings. Since the job contains only references to the actual drawing files, any changes made to the drawing will be applied when the job is re-submitted.

  • You can publish files to an Océ Plan Centre digital plan room using the Publish toolbar button. If your reprographer is an Océ Plan Centre Authorized Host and sends you an e-mail invitation, you can login to view files and submit print orders online.
